Nice movie: Taking Woodstock

Posted by Marc Backes on Tuesday, 8 September, 2009

Taking WoodstockAs a spontaneous decision, my girlfriend and I went to the cinema picking the first movie on the list which was presented in English. The movie is called “Taking Woodstock“.

Basically it is about a guy (Elliot) who is living in the middle of nowhere and whom parents have an old, crappy motel. They have to pay back the money for the motel to the bank, but they don’t have any success with their business. Suddenly, Elliot reads in a news paper that the Woodstock festival could not take place because they took the authorization. So why not organizing Woodstock in his backyard?

It was a nice movie to watch, but not one of those where I think WOOOW! I would give it 7/10 points. It is s nice story where you see you step by step everything getting out of control.

The movie is based on a true story!

Movie recommendation: Inglourious Basterds

Posted by Marc Backes on Friday, 28 August, 2009

When Claude was visiting my girlfriend and me in Lucerne, we have been watching the movie “Inglourious Basterds“.

Plot: Nazi occupied France, and a young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the Inglourious Bastardsslaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller quickly takes an interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the “Basterds”, a group of Jewish-American guerrilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl’s plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.

Movie recommendation: The Hangover

Posted by Marc Backes on Thursday, 6 August, 2009

The Hangover - CoverYesterday, I have been in the cinema “Capitol” in Lucerne. I have been watching the movie “The Hangover” (thank god, they offer it in English here. Just the frickin’ subtitles (German & Frensh)  are bothering.

My expectations to the movie have been moderate-high. I saw a trailer and I found it pretty nice.

But the movie exceeded my expections! It is very funny! I have been laughing a lot!

The plot is about 4 guys who go to Las Vegas to celebrate the bachelor party from one of them. Then they suddenly can’t remember anything about the evening… And lost the groom…

As I said: Funny and fullpacked with jokes. And remember… what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas (excepting the Herpes, that can stay in Vegas!)

TV: How I Met Your Mother Season 4 Finale

Posted by Marc Backes on Tuesday, 19 May, 2009

Today, I watched the big finale of “How I Met Your Mother“’s season 4 (episode 24), and it totally filled my expectations :)
There have been a lot of connections to earlier episodes and finally, the legendary “story of the goat”.

TV serie: Reaper

Posted by Marc Backes on Monday, 11 May, 2009

ReaperSome days ago, I started watching the TV show “Reaper“.

It is about a guy called Sam (Bret Harrison) who is damned to catch souls for the devil (Ray Wise) which escaped from hell. He has to do that because his parents sold his sould to the devil. His friends, Sock (Tyler Labine) and Benjamin (Rick Gonzalez) are helping him. For each soul to catch, he gets a vessel to catch it.

You think the story sounds kind of old and boring? Well, the realization of it is really amazing. The first episodes are always the same, but it is getting better and better. There are developed  small very interesting sub-stories during the serie. Furthermore, the special effects are amazing. If I could, I would give a special award to Ray Wise, playing the devil in this serie. He is the most perfect person to play this role! Hats off!

Plus, the serie deals with a lot of myths about hell and heaven which are kind of interesting to discuss ;)

I finished now the 9th episode of the 2nd season and I cannot wait until Wednesday when the new episode is coming…! :)

This post will only be interesting for people who know the TV serie “How I Met Your Mother”!

You see who is the mother. Well… they don’t tell explicitely that it is her, but it is very probable.
For the ones of you who don’t want to know who the mother is, don’t click “Continue reading”!

Heroes Season 3 Finale

Posted by Marc Backes on Thursday, 30 April, 2009

HeroesOn Tuesday, René and I, we watched the finale of Heroes season 3.

And it was a disappointment! To be more specific: Half of the season was a disappointment. Only very low special effects and thin story. The finale itself has a quiet brutal scene and the end is very stupid.

I am not going to tell more here, because maybe some of us haven’t seen the episode yet. But to be fair: Until the half of the season it was a good one. :)

Recommendation: Slumdog millionaire

Posted by Marc Backes on Sunday, 22 March, 2009

Slumdog MillionaireLast week, I saw a movie, called “Slumdog millionaire“.

It is about an indian boy who came from a slum in India and how he took part in a gameshow similar to “Who want to be a millionaire” or in German “Wer wird Millionär”. The police intererogated the main character “Jamal” because the thought he was cheating in the show.  During the movie, they show how he was able to know the answers of the question which mostly was a blackflash to his miserable past.

Just for fun: Ted & the goat

Posted by Marc Backes on Tuesday, 2 December, 2008

Today, just surfing around in the Internet, I found a very funny picture of the TV show “How I Met Your Mother“. It is one of the most funniest pictures about that show. Not only because there is a goat in the living room, but just look at Ted’s (the character in the serie is called Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor) face expression :)

To all those of you who don’t watch yet “How I Met Your Mother”, you have to start watching it :) It’s currently the most amazing TV show running there all over the world ;)
